What is the difference between whipped cream and Chantilly cream frosting?
Whipped cream is typically not sweetened, but Chantilly cream is sweetened although in the United States, both are sweetened. Here, both these terms would be used interchangeably. Check out my Homemade Stabilized Whipped Cream recipe for another similar choice.

What to pair with French Creme Chantilly?
Cakes- A nice Vanilla Cake great tastes delicious with this cream, but there are are many options that pair well, including Texas Sheet Cake, Chocolate Raspberry Cake, Pistachio Cake, and Apple Pie Cake.
Cupcakes- This is a great topper for various cupcakes, such as Chocolate Cupcakes, Rainbow Cupcakes, Orange Cupcakes, Vanilla Cupcakes, Strawberry Cupcakes, and more!
Cookies- Chantilly can be used as a dip, topping, or sandwich options for cookies. Some tasty choices to make along with cream include Reese's Cookies, Key Lime Cookies, or Funfetti Cookies. You can also use as an alternative in Whoopie Pies, or switch out the cream cheese option in Mini Dessert Pizzas.
Pies- Of course this goes perfectly with just about any pie: Pumpkin pie, banana cream pie, cherry pie, cranberry pie, chocolate cream pie, apple pie- you name it!
Crisps and Cobblers- Much like pies, Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp, Easy Banana Crumble, Apple Crisp, Blueberry Dump Cake (Cobbler), and Peach Dump Cake (Cobbler) will also go great with this recipe.
Breads- Delicious sweet breads like Orange Cranberry Bread, Banana Bread, Sweet Potato Bread, and Chocolate Banana Bread pair well and add an extra dollop of sweetness.
Pancakes- This cream is a great option to go with your morning meal of pancakes. Simply put a lot or a little atop that flapjack for a great tasting combination.
Waffles- I love waffles, whether it's for breakfast or dinner. My favorite is with fresh berries and creme Chantilly. Just put a dollop on top of your favorite, crispy waffle and you have deliciousness.

Tips and techniques
- All bowls and attachments must be chilled in freezer- Heavy cream must be chilled. Peaks form best when everything is cold.
- Don’t over-mix- Because it curdles and turns to butter and that's not what we're making here!
- Cannot use granulated sugar- You must use powdered sugar, because it is lighter, gives a smoother texture, and helps it stay stiff.
- Sift powdered sugar- Because it removes lumps and makes the overall consistency more smooth.
- Stabilize frosting with gelatin- That way it will hold its form better, which is especially important when making cookie sandwiches or decorating a cake.
- Add more or less sugar- To fit your particular sweet tooth.
- Use clear extract- Because it will prevent discoloration and you typically want this cream to stay nice and white.
Storage
- Fridge- Place in the fridge, covered for up to 3 days. It will need to be re-whipped because it will deflate slightly.
- Freezer- Do not freeze, because dairy changes texture and will not thaw to the right consistency.
