How To Make Blueberry Dump Cake Recipe From Scratch?

  1. Spread blueberries– In a rectangular cake pan.

What To Serve With Dump Cake?

Ice cream– Vanilla is a classic and delicious compliment, especially a vanilla bean version.

White chocolate ganache– Use this Easy Chocolate Ganache {2 Ingredient} recipe but use high quality white chocolate chips instead.

Buttercream icing– Try this American Buttercream Frosting Recipe or even this Lemon Frosting {Lemon Buttercream}.

Whipped cream– You can use store-bought or make this Homemade Whipped Cream

Lemon curd– Drizzle or spoon this homemade Lemon Curd on top. Lemon pairs so well with blueberries.

Pudding– Serve a dollop of Homemade Vanilla Pudding, just prior to serving.

Sauces– Such as Homemade Caramel Sauce or Dulce De Leche.

Variations For Blueberry Cobbler Cake Mix

Blueberry pineapple dump cake– Replace half the blueberries with chunks of pineapple, or drained canned pineapples for a tropical flavor.

Mixed berry cobbler– Instead of just blueberries, use a combination of cherries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries.

Add zests– Lemon would be awesome! You could also add lime or orange zest.

Add seasonings– Such as nutmeg, allspice or cardamom for even more flavor.

Add shredded coconut– For another texture addition and a little sweetness. About 1/3 cup should be enough.

Add nuts– Such as roughly chopped pecans, walnuts, or hazelnuts.

Make individual cobblers– Layer ingredients in ramekins, for individual servings.

Tips and Techniques

Use unsalted butter– Because that prevents this treat from becoming too salty. Also, don’t replace it with oil, shortening or margarine because it does not yield good results.

Brand of cake mixes– I have used these brands of cake mixes successfully: Pillsbury, Duncan Hines and Betty Crocker.

Try other flavors of cake mixes– I use a yellow cake mix but you can also use a white cake mix, butter cake mix, lemon cake mix or even spice cake mix.

Serve it warm- This is the one time I would recommend serving a cake warm because it tastes best this way and the texture is just perfect!

Fresh blueberries vs. Frozen blueberries– I highly recommend using fresh blueberries for this recipe. Frozen blueberries will release a lot of water and may make the cake “runny” and soggy.

Spread dry cake mix evenly– Because this ensures that the top cooks evenly and that each bite has cake mix in it. Do not mix the cake mix powder with the blueberries.

What size cake pan to use? 9×13 size works best.

Thinly slice the butter evenly on top– Because this helps the cake to lightly brown on top.

How do you know dump cake is done baking? It should become golden brown on top.
