Quick and easy snowman cupcakes, homemade with simple ingredients. Topped with mini donut toppers. Great for Christmas or Winter parties and birthday parties.

Making a snowman is not as easy as it looks but these cute treats sure are easy! I have seen many other decorating ideas. There are  ones with marshmallows, melting snowmen. There is even a pull apart cupcake cake version which is super cool. Here are some more snowman themed desserts that are really fun: Easy Snowman Donuts, Snowman Cake and Snowman Ice Cream Cones.

How to make easy snowman cupcakes?

    1. Bake and cool cupcakes- Prepare frosting.
    2. Pipe frosting- In a swirl on top of each cupcake.
    3. Insert lollipop stick- Through the bottom of two mini donuts.
    4. Make a face- With candy corn, mini chocolate chips.
    5. Make ear warmers- With fruit loops and m&m candies.
    6. Add button- Stick an m&m in the center.
    7. Add scarf- Wrap a strip of fruit loop around the neck area.
    8. Push this through the center of cupcake- Once the chocolate sets.

    Variations for winter cupcakes

Try other frosting flavors- Such as Chocolate Ganache Frosting {2 Ingredients} or this Chocolate Buttercream Frosting Recipe. You can skip chocolate flavor altogether and try this Brown Sugar Frosting.

Try other cupcake flavors- Such as Rainbow Cupcakes {With Cake Mix}, Best Red Velvet Cupcakes {With Cream Cheese Frosting}, or Mocha Cupcakes (Coffee Cupcakes).

Add fillings- Such as Raspberry Pie Filling, Homemade Strawberry Jam, Cherry Pie Filling and follow this How to Make Filled Cupcakes {Stuffed Cupcakes} tutorial for easy instructions.

Melted snowman cupcakes- Top the cupcake in a "puddle" of melted white chocolate or white ganache, and use a full size marshmallow as the remaining unmelted head. Use thin pretzel sticks as the arms sticking out of the puddle, and m&ms as the buttons. Use an edible marker to draw on the face.

Use marshmallows- Instead of mini powdered donuts.

Consider using cake balls or donut holes- Instead of donuts.

Add other features- Such as caps, bow tie, pretzel stick arms.

Make snowman face only- Just make the face portion and skip the body and that will make a cute topper too.

Tips and techniques for easy kids birthday cupcakes

Cool cupcakes completely before icing- Because otherwise the frosting will melt and slide right off the cupcake.

Use a small wooden skewer- In place of the lollipop stick to skewer the donuts.

What tip to use for the frosting swirl? I used Wilton tip 1M to make the swirl but you can also use a large round tip or he French tip. It's entirely up to you.

    Storage of decorated cupcakes

Refrigerate- In a covered box or container for up to 3 days.

Freeze- Cupcakes and frosting can be frozen separately in sealed container for up to 1 month. When you are ready to enjoy these cupcakes, thaw to room temperature. Decorate, as per instructions below.

    Another idea- Fondant snowman topper

This is another idea that you can consider with a similar theme. It is especially great for people who enjoy working with fondant or gum paste.

Fondant Snowman Topper on Red Star Shaped Tray
    1. Roll out white fondant and use a circle cutter to cut out a piece.
    2. Roll out light blue fondant and use the same circle cutter to cut out another piece.
    3. Cut this piece in half with a knife.
    4. Brush water near the top of the white circle and stick this blue semi-circle piece here.
    5. This will be the snowman's hat.
    6. Cut a thin strip of blue fondant
    7. and use a knife to make little indentations. Stick this strip on the base of the hat with water.
    8. Cut another thin strip of blue fondant. Roll it from one end to the other.
    9. Squeeze the bottom so it sticks together in the shape of a pompom. Use the knife to cut off excess from the base.
    10. Brush some water on the top of the blue hat and stick this little pompom piece there.
    11. To make eyes, take two round sprinkles and use a black marker to draw eyeballs. Stick them onto the face with water.
    12. To make the carrot nose, make a little cone shape out of orange fondant and stick it into place with some water.
    13. You can also just draw the nose with orange edible marker.
    14. Use a black marker to make a dotted smile.
    15. To make cheeks, stick round pink sprinkles on the sides of the mouth and you are done!
