Learn to make quick and easy spider web cupcakes for Halloween parties. You need melted white chocolate for these simple chocolate cobweb toppers.
I have seen countless variations of this cupcake design but this is my spin on that idea. There is no need for fondant or fancy tools. You don't need any cake decorating skills at all. All you need is melted chocolate, wax paper, a squeeze bottle and some sprinkles. These cupcakes are great for serving at spooky Halloween parties like this fully curated Kids Halloween Party, but I think they are also perfect as Spiderman web cupcakes for Spiderman birthday parties. If you are going fully spider themed, then you have to add this Spider Cake (Spider Web Cake) to the plans as well!

Try other cupcakes flavors- Such as Rainbow Cupcakes {With Cake Mix}, Best Red Velvet Cupcakes, Chocolate Chip Cupcakes, Easy Orange Cupcakes, or even Brownie Cupcakes.
Try other frosting flavors- Such as Chocolate Ganache Frosting, Lemon Frosting, Maraschino Cherry Frosting, Marshmallow Frosting, or Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting.
Add fillings- Such as Homemade Caramel Sauce, Raspberry Pie Filling, Strawberry Pie Filling, Blueberry Pie Filling, Lemon Curd, or Cherry Pie Filling. Follow this tutorial on How To Make Filled Cupcakes, if needed.
Try other colors of frosting- Such as purple or black to keep with the spooky theme.
Use fondant to cover cupcakes- This homemade Marshmallow Fondant is the best!
Make different colors of chocolate webs- You can also toss some sprinkles or white sanding sugar on them, while the chocolate is still wet, to make them sparkly.
Add sprinkles- Add sprinkles to the frosting on the cupcakes that are complementary colors or even seasonal Halloween sprinkles.
Tips And Techniques For Spooky Cupcakes
Use white candy melts or almond bark white chocolate- They are the best for making any edible decorations because they dry firmer and stronger than regular white chocolate bars or chips.
If you choose to color the melted white chocolate, make sure to use oil based food coloring– Do not use water-based food coloring or else your chocolate will seize. There is no way to reverse this.
Make extra chocolate spider webs- Because some will break when you are removing them from the wax paper.
Make sure the lines you are piping with melted chocolate are thick- Because this will make the web sturdier and it won't break easily.
How to make spiderwebs? I made these spiderwebs without a template but you can use a pencil or marker to draw a few spider webs on a sheet of paper and place the wax paper on top of it and then trace over the template with melted chocolate. This might be easier for some people.
How to melt chocolate- Follow the package directions. If there are no directions, then melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl at 30 second intervals, stirring between each heating until mixture is silky smooth.
Storage Of Decorated Cupcakes
Refrigerate- In a sealed container for up to 2 days.
Freeze- Unfrosted cupcakes and frosting can be made in advance and stored separately in sealed containers. When you are ready to enjoy these treats, thaw to room temperature and assemble as per instructions below.

Ingredients
- 20 Vanilla cupcakes
- 3 cups American buttercream frosting Orange color
- 2 cups White chocolate Melted
- ½ cup Semisweet or dark chocolate Melted
- ¼ cup Chocolate sprinkles
Instructions
- Bake cupcakes and allow them to cool completely.
- While cupcakes are baking and cooling, prepare the frosting.
- Melt white chocolate and pour it in a squeeze bottle.
- Line a cookie tray with wax paper and draw an “x” with your squeeze bottle.
- Then, make a “plus” sign.
- Now, connect the lines to create a spider web design. It's best to start on the inside and work your way outside. Also, make sure the lines you are drawing are thick coz if not, the web will not be strong.
- Place this tray in the freezer for 5 minutes or until the webs harden.
- Gently, use a spatula to remove the spider webs from the wax paper.
- To make the chocolate spiders, melt dark chocolate and pour it into a squeeze bottle.
- Line a cookie tray with parchment paper.
- Pour a small blob of chocolate on the wax paper (about 1 inch diameter). This will be the body of the spider.
- Before this blob hardens, attach some chocolate sprinkles to the sides or pipe them out with chocolate. These will be the legs of your spider.
- Also, toss some sprinkles on top of the chocolate spider.
- Place this tray in the freezer for 5 minutes and then gently, peel the spiders away from the wax paper.
- Use a spatula to roughly frost your cupcakes.
- Stick the chocolate web into the center of the cupcake and use a bit of melted chocolate to attach the spider to the web or you can just place it on the cupcake too. Enjoy!
Notes
- Read all my tips above.

Oh my goodness, I love these cupcakes! I'm especially excited about the chocolate rosewater buttercream b/c I bought rosewater to use in baklava and I have a ton of it now. Yay for a new way to use it! Your decorations are so cute! I've done white chocolate decorations once-last year I made cupcakes with snowflakes made of white chocolate and sprinkled with coarse sugar so they kinda sparkled. I loved it!

Ooooh, spooky cupcakes! I love them. You're such a whiz at decorating that I love looking at your desserts. My impression is a lot of the world doesn't really celebrate Halloween - I believe the same is true in France, for example. Too bad, because it's an excuse for a really good time!
Kiran
I know what you mean -- in Malaysia, Halloween is not celebrated. And I think we miss on so much fun!
That's a spooky-licious cupcake!
