- Mix- Until apples are coated in the caramelized sugar syrup.

What to serve with fried apples?
These apples are spectacular on their own but taste even better with vanilla ice cream or Homemade Whipped Cream.
You can also use them in these ways:
- Topping– On ice cream, oatmeal, Homemade Vanilla Pudding, biscuits, Buttermilk Pound Cake, or Yogurt Parfait, waffles, Cinnamon French Toast, pancakes.
- Filling– In Homemade Cinnamon Rolls, pastries, cakes, cupcakes, Crepes, pies, tarts, monkey bread, in a crumble, or even dump cake.
Storage
Refrigerate- In a sealed container for up to 3 days.
Freeze- In a sealed container or bag for up to 1 month.
Reheat– Allow them to thaw, if frozen, and then reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop.
Variations
Cut the apples differently– You can cut the apples into slices instead of chunks if you prefer. Make sure that the slices are not stacked and stuck together or they may cook unevenly.
Vary the spices– Use an apple pie blend or add cardamom. You can also use more or less depending on your personal preference.
Add extracts– Such as vanilla, almond, bourbon, amaretto or even coconut.
Make it vegan– Use coconut oil instead of butter.
Use a variety of apples– They all bring a slightly different taste. You can use Fuji, Pink Lady, Gala, Honeycrisp, McIntosh, or Granny Smith. Tart apples would require the addition of more sugar to create a more balanced flavor.
Add nuts- Such as roughly chopped walnuts, pecans, cashews, or slivered almonds. Toast the nuts before adding them for additional depth of flavor.
Use other sweeteners– Such as honey, agave, maple syrup, coconut sugar, or stevia. This is entirely up to you. Please note the overall flavor will vary, based on your sweetener choice.
Add dried fruits- Such as dried cranberries, raisins or even dried mangoes.
Tips and Techniques
Chop the apples evenly- When the pieces are a uniform size, they will cook more evenly.
Do you serve this warm or cold? It’s best served warm, otherwise the sauce will become thicker, as it cools.
What are the best apples to use? I prefer sweeter apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, Gala, or Pink Lady. However, you can use Granny Smith apples if you prefer a tart contrast to the sweet sugar.
Do you peel the apples? Yes. That's because they create a better smoother texture. However, if you prefer to leave the skin on, you can! It does add color to the dish, and won’t change the flavor.
How do I know the apples are done? When the apples are tender but not falling apart and "mushy," they are ready. This takes about 2 hours.
Adjust the amount of sugar- Some people like this dish sweet while others don’t. Add more or less sugar, based on your preference. Use both, granulated and brown sugar for the best flavor profile.
Serve a crowd- Simply double the ingredients. Make sure your slow cooker is large enough to hold all the ingredients.
