This roundup of Valentine's Day treats has every fruit snack your heart desires- Beautiful cakes, cupcakes, cookies, candies that are homemade with simple ingredients!
I made these Valentine's Day fruits with messages after seeing some fruits on the web that had adorable printables attached to them. Since making printables is too much work and I am kinda lazy, I took the easier route, grabbed my edible markers, and simply wrote on the fruits! You can add these fruits into your kids lunch boxes or even hubby's lunch bag. Can you imagine the looks on their faces when they open their lunch boxes and see these cute fruits? I live for those moments. For more inspired treats, have fun perusing this roundup of Pink Desserts {Valentine’s Day Desserts} as well as these Easy Breakfast In Bed Ideas (Recipes).

Edible Markers
Do not fear! I did not use sharpies on these fruits because that would be toxic and then the fruit would be contaminated, making them no longer edible. I do not like wasting food either so that would go against every fiber of my being! Edible markers are the magic here. You can find these online at Amazon or Wilton. You can also find them at Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Party City, Joann, or Michaels. Just check your local stores to see if they are in stock, and have fun creating.
Tips and Techniques
- My favorite fruits were these pears- They were not as waxy as the other fruits. So, writing on them was very easy.
- Bananas are easy to write on the skin- Because they are also not as waxy. I think the message on them is the cutest!
- Invite your kids to make some for friends or family- My little one had a blast writing on them too. Well, more like scribbling. It kept him busy for a full 15 minutes and that's a miracle!
- Oranges are more difficult to write on the peel- Because they are covered in a nasty waxy substance. Even after washing them a few times, I couldn't get rid of all that icky wax.
- Use yellow or green apples, if possible- When I bought these red apples, I didn't realize I was going to use a black edible marker to write my messages. Turns out that red and black don't complement each other too well, making it difficult to read the message. So, if you will be writing messages on apples, I suggest you get yellow or green apples and use those as your Valentine's Day fruits.
- Use other foods and phrases- Such as a dill pickle, and write, "You're kind of a big dill!" This is a stretch, but some kids like to eat tomatoes like apples so you could write on one, "I love you from my head tomatoes!" This would also be super cute to put in hubby's lunch with a knife so he could freshly slice the tomatoes for a sandwich or something like that. You could also fill a bag with berries, and write "You're berry cool!" on the bag, since the berries are too small and bumpy to write on individually. Another orange option is, "Well, orange you cute?!" For a kiwi, you could write "You hold the kiwi to my heart," on a little note, tape it to a toothpick, and stick it into the kiwi.
- Wash and pat dry fruit before writing- Because the fruit must be dry for the edible markers to work on the fruit, and they need to be washed in order to be eaten safely.

These are very clever. I'm going to use them for my Bible study group refreshments in February changing the writings to: Orange you glad Jesus loves you?; You are the apple of His eye; Jesus is bananas for you; and God and you make a great pear. Thank you for such a great idea.

Omg! Those messages are amazing! I hope your friends enjoy them

What brand of edible markers did you use? I have purchase two different kinds and none of them look like yours at all.
Abeer Rizvi
I use Americolor with the pointy tip. If the markers are not writing well, I have noticed that cleaning the fruits with soap and water to get rid of the waxy residue really helps.

Where do you buy the markers??
Abeer Rizvi
I get them from Amazon.
