If your kids liked my easy Emoji Cookies (Oreos) and Oreo Turkey Cookies (Candy Corn), then they are going to really enjoy today's spooky yet cute cookies. You don't need any fancy ingredients or tools. All you need are store-bought candies and cookies and you an get as creative as you like!

Key ingredients
- Oreos- I used Golden Oreos but you can use classic chocolate ones or any flavor of your choice.
- Sprinkles- Use a seasonal blend or a simple rainbow mix that you probably already have in your pantry.
- Melted chocolate- This is used as "edible glue" to stick candy pieces and sprinkles onto the cookie.
- Candies- You will need m&m candies, licorice ropes and licorice strips.

Variations
- Use chocolate chip cookies- This version has become very popular over the last few years. When the cookies come out of the oven, freshly baked, push a few chocolate chips on top before they cool. Then, fill a small piping bag with melted chocolate and pipe little legs around the chocolate chips to look like tiny critters.
- Try peanut butter cookies- Make my Peanut Butter Blossoms (Thumbprint Cookies) and stick a Rolo candy in the center and pipe out the legs with melted chocolate and stick candy eyeballs.
- Use other cream filled cookies- I used golden Oreos. However, you can use classic chocolate Oreos or Nutter Butters or even Oatmeal Creme Pies and even these Chocolate Whoopie Pies (With Cake Mix).
- Make cut cookies and decorate- Try these Easy Chocolate Sugar Cookies (Cut Out) or even these Easy Cut Out Sugar Cookies (With Cake Mix).
- Add a filling- Such as Raspberry Pie Filling, Strawberry Pie Filling, Chocolate Whipped Cream, Easy Chocolate Ganache, Dulce De Leche, or Homemade Caramel Sauce.
- Use seasonal Halloween sprinkles- Instead of rainbow sprinkles to make these cookies look spooky.
- Omit tongue- I added a licorice tongue but that's optional and can be omitted.
- Use store-bought small candy eyeballs- Instead of m&m eyes.
- Instead of licorice ropes- Use mini pretzel rods for legs.
- Enjoy these as cupcake toppers- Just place them on top of your frosted cupcakes, prior to serving.
- Make spider truffles- Make my easy Oreo truffles (Balls) and then decorate them similarly with variety of candies to create cute little critters.
How to make Oreo spider cookies?

1. Cut licorice ropes- Into smaller pieces to make legs.

2. Separate Oreo cookies- Pour melted chocolate on creamy side and stick six licorice rope legs.

3. Cut red licorice strips- Into a "U" shape.

4. Stick this tongue- On top of the melted chocolate too.

5. Cover- With non-creamy side of the Oreo and spread more melted chocolate on top.

6. Add final details- Cover top with sprinkles and stick eyes.
Tips and techniques
- Make it a kid friendly craft station - This is a great edible craft for kids and if you pre-cut the candy pieces in advance, the little ones can just assemble everything together like a puzzle.
- How to spread chocolate? I used a spoon to spread melted chocolate but a clean paintbrush would be mush easier, especially if you are making these with kids.
- Work fast- The chocolate will harden pretty quickly, so make sure to stick all the body parts fast.
- Do all your work over a large lined baking tray- Line with wax paper or parchment paper. This will make clean up super quick and easy.
- What kind of chocolate to use? I used semisweet, but you can use dark chocolate or even white chocolate if you prefer. You can use chocolate chips or candy melts or almond bark.

Recipe FAQs
You can pipe the design with melted white chocolate like I did with these Spider Web Cupcakes. Another option is to cut up licorice ropes into smaller pieces and stick them on top of the cookie, using melted chocolate, to create a web design.
They are probably stale or they have absorbed moisture from the air, especially if you left your box unsealed and exposed.
Storage
- Room Temperature- In a cookie jar or box for up to 1 week.
- Refrigerate- I don't recommend this because the sprinkles can bleed color from the moisture in the fridge.
- Freeze- These do not freeze well because the cookies become soggy upon thawing and the sprinkles end up "bleeding" color.
- Make ahead- These can easily be made 1 day in advance.
