Easy Monster Cookies {Candy Corn Cookies}

Easy monster cookies, homemade with simple ingredients. Triangle shaped candy corn inspired chocolate sugar cookies are decorated with buttercream icing.

I recently made a beautiful Candy Corn Cake and that inspired these cookies! I wanted them to be simple but also cool and unique! Candy corns are probably the most classic Halloween candy out there. Many of us (a.ka. me!) wait all year to stock up on them. So naturally when they came back, their vibrant colors and triangular shape inspired the design. Add these Easy Ghost Cookies and no bake Oreo Spider Cookies for the most spooky tablescape!

How To Make Easy Monster Cookies?

  1. Prepare cookie dough– Roll it and cut out triangles.
  2. Bake– Until firm.
  3. Prep icing bags– Fill three piping bags with different colored icings.
  4. Pipe squiggly lines– By moving your hand in a right-left motion rapidly.
  5. Make eyes– Using a black edible marker and m&m candies.
  6. Stick eyes– Near the top of each cookie.

Variations For Halloween Candy Corn Cookies

Use multiple colors of frosting– Pipe alternating rows of red, white and orange icing ruffles or do rainbow colors for rainbow monsters. Let your imagination be free!

Add a mouth– Use black buttercream and make a jagged smile.

Change the placement of the eyeballs– To make the eyes silly or looking in different directions simply dot the eyes up to the right, down to the left, or googly.

Use Skittles– In place of M&M candies for the eyeballs.

Use a different icing tip– They will look different, but the varied textures will add major cuteness appeal!

Add sprinkles- For more fun.

Tips And Techniques

How to cut cookies? I cut the triangular shapes of the cookies, freehandedly. But, you can use a triangle cutter and that would make things so much easier.

What icing to use? I used buttercream icing to decorate these cookies because I personally think it tastes better than royal icing. But, if you are planning on packaging these and using them as gifts or party favors, then I highly recommend using royal icing or glace icing because they dry hard.

How to fix messy ruffles? You will notice that one side of the cookie will have some messy and droopy ruffles. That can be fixed easily. Just run a spatula along the side of the cookie downwards and no more mess.

How to pipe ruffles? Hold your bag at a 45 degree angle near the base of the cookie. Squeeze your bag util icing comes out. Now, start moving your hand in a right-left motion rapidly. This should result in a beautiful row of squiggly ruffles.

These cookies cannot be stacked– Because the buttercream does not dry hard.

Storage

Refrigerate– In a sealed container for up to 3 days.

Freeze– I don’t recommend freezing iced cookies because they can become soggy upon thawing. Freeze cookies and icing separately for up to 1 month. When you are ready to assemble, let them thaw and follow the instructions in the recipe card below.
