How To Make Oreo Spider Cookies?

    1. Separate Oreo cookies- So you are left with a creamy side and a non-creamy side.
    2. Add melted chocolate- On the creamy cookie.
    3. Cut up licorice ropes- Stick them on the chocolate blob.
    4. Add spider tongue- Cut red licorice ropes in a "u" shape.
    5. Close spider- Press the non-creamy side of the cookie on top.
    6. Add melted chocolate on top- Cover with sprinkles.
    7. Add eyes- Using two m&m candies.

    Variations For Halloween Oreos

Spider chocolate chip cookies- This version has become very popular over the last few years. When the cookies come out of the oven, freshly baked, push a few chocolate chips on top before they cool. Then, fill a small piping bag with melted chocolate and pipe little legs around the chocolate chips.

Peanut butter cookies- Make Peanut butter blossoms cookies (Thumbprint cookies) and stick a Rolo candy in the center and pipe out the legs with melted chocolate and add some candy eyeballs.

Use other cookies- I used golden Oreos. However, you can use chocolate Oreos or any other cream filled cookies such as Nutter Butters or even Oatmeal Creme Pies for really big critters!

Make cookies from scratch and decorate- Try these Easy Reeses Cookies {With Cake Mix}, or these Easy Chocolate Sugar Cookies {Cut Out} or even these Easy Cut Out Sugar Cookies (With Cake Mix).

Add a filling- Such as Raspberry Pie Filling, Strawberry Pie Filling, Chocolate Whipped Cream, Easy Chocolate Ganache, Dulce De Leche, or Homemade Caramel Sauce.

Use seasonal Halloween sprinkles- Instead of rainbow sprinkles to make these cookies look spooky.

Omit tongue- I added a licorice tongue but that's optional and can be omitted.

Use store-bought small candy eyeballs- Instead of m&m eyes.

    Tips And Techniques

Make it kid-friendly- This is also a great Halloween edible craft for kids and if you pre-cut the candy pieces in advance, the little ones can just assemble everything together like a puzzle.

How to spread chocolate? I used a spoon to spread melted chocolate but a clean paintbrush would be mush easier, especially if you are making these with kids.

Work fast- The chocolate will harden pretty quickly, so make sure to add all the body parts fast.

What kind of chocolate to use? I used semi-sweet, but you can use dark chocolate or even white chocolate if you prefer.

    Storage For Decorated Oreos

Room Temperature- In a cookie jar or box for up to 2 days.

Freeze- These do not freeze well because the cookies become soggy upon thawing and the sprinkles end up "bleeding" color.

    Ingredients

    • 10 Golden Oreos Can use the classic chocolate Oreos instead
    • 1 cup Chocolate Semisweet, Melted
    • 15 Licorice ropes
    • 10 Rectangular licorice pieces
    • ½ cup Sprinkles
    • 20 M&M candies

    Instructions

    • Separate the Oreo cookies so that you are left with a creamy side and a non-creamy side.
    • Pour a blob of melted chocolate on the creamy cookie.
    • Cut up some some licorice ropes with scissors and stick them on the chocolate blob. These will be the legs of the spiders.
    • Then, cut out a “u” shape with red licorice rips. This will be the tongue of the spiders. Stick this onto the melted chocolate too.
    • Now, press the non-creamy side of the cookie on top until it sticks into place. You will need to work fast before the chocolate hardens.
    • Pour another blob of melted chocolate on top of the cookie and cover with sprinkles.
    • Use some more melted chocolate to stick two m&m candies on top of the sprinkles. These will be the eyes of the spiders. Enjoy!
