Kit Kat Cake With Strawberries

Quick and easy Kit Kat cake with strawberries, blackberries, requiring simple ingredients. This easy cake decorating idea is perfect for birthdays.

I made this for family and friends on my last trip to Canada. My family loved it and it and we had no leftovers! Since I didn’t have any of my cake supplies with me on my trip, I worked with what I had: Strawberries, Blackberries and lots of Kit Kats! This recipe is so easy for beginners and requires simple ingredients. Additionally, If you don’t have time to bake a cake from scratch or make frosting from scratch, you can make a no bake version by using pre-made non-frosted cake, store-bought frosting and lots of fresh berries of your choice. This Easy Pig Cake {Fondant Pig Topper} also features a Kit Kat border, but in a much more playful way.

How To Make Kit Kat Cake Recipe From Scratch?

  1. Frost a cake- With buttercream icing and stick Kit Kats all around it.
  2. Tie a ribbon around it– To hold the candy bars together.
  3. Arrange the fresh fruits– On top of the cake and enjoy!

How Many Kit Kats Are On This Cake?

There are 40 Kit Kats on this cake per the recipe. The number of Kit Kats will vary based on the size of the cake you make.

Variations For Kit Kat Birthday Cake

Use other candy– You can use different chocolate bars like Twix, Snickers, Twizzlers, or Mars bars.

Add m&ms– Instead of berries, use m&m candies to top the cake.

Make an Easter version– Replace berries with Easter egg candies.

Make it white– I used regular milk chocolate Kit Kats but you can also use white Kit Kats.

Make an ice cream version– Instead of chocolate cake, you can chill ice cream in a circle pan and stick Kit Kats all around it to make an ice cream cake.

Use a different flavor cake– Such as yellow, white, or Funfetti Cake.

Try different frosting– Such as White Chocolate Buttercream Frosting or American Buttercream Frosting Recipe.

Consider a different cake shape– I made circle cakes, but you can bake a square or rectangle cake if you like.

Tips And Techniques For Kit Kat Chocolate Cake

Don’t frost or decorate warm cakes- Because the warmth will cause the icing and fondant to melt and make a sticky mess.

Level the cakes– Slice off the dome on the cakes before stacking them for an even and flat cake.

Cut your strawberries lengthwise and dry them– Place them on a paper towel so that all those juices can get absorbed. The last thing you need is drippy strawberries… it can make your cake so soft and “mushy.” Wash and pat dry the blackberries too.

If you are not using a cake stand, make sure your cake is sitting on a very sturdy cake board– Because this cake will get heavy.

What size cake pans to use? I recommend 2 round 8×2 pans for this recipe. You can use alternate sizes, but may need more batter if they are larger.

How to know cakes are done baking? Insert a toothpick in the center and if it comes out clean, they are ready to be removed from the oven.

Don’t skip the ribbon– It really helps to stabilize the cake so that the Kit Kats don’t slide, slip, or fall off.

Storage

Refrigerate– Since this cake is covered in fruits, I highly advise you to keep it in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve. Leftovers can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Freeze– Unfrosted cakes can be stored in a sealed container for up to 1 month. When you are ready to enjoy it, let it thaw in the fridge overnight and then, decorate as per instructions below.
