Learn how to make a quick and easy Halloween candy cake for kids or adults Halloween party. Great way to use up leftover Halloween candies too!

I have made many decorated cakes over the years but this wacky cool Halloween version is one of my favorites. Actually, there is a two-way tie between this cake and this Halloween Cake (Twizzler Cake). I love them both! This is a red velvet cake with red American buttercream frosting and topped off with chocolate bites that are loaded with some classic Halloween treats. This cake would make the perfect addition to this Kids Halloween Party {Owl Cake} that is perfectly planned out for you!

How To Make Easy DIY Candy Cake With Halloween Leftovers?

    1. Bake cake- Let it cool down.
    2. Ice it- Completely in frosting.
    3. Spread melted chocolate blobs- On wax paper.
    4. Toss candies- Let it all set.
    5. Remove chocolate bites- From wax paper.
    6. Stick them- On top of the cake.

How Do You Stick Candies On Cake?

Use buttercream to attach them on an iced/frosted cake. Use Royal Icing if you made a fondant cake.

    Variations For Candy Birthday Cake?

Make it a birthday cake- You can easily use the same tutorial to make a birthday cake. Just switch out the Halloween candies with the birthday kid's favorite candies.

Use other candy- Such as cotton candy, gummies, candy bars, lollipops, or whatever else you like!

Try other cake flavors- Such as Mexican Chocolate Cake {With Cake Mix}, Funfetti/Confetti Cake {From Scratch}, Easy Rainbow Cake {With Cake Mix}, or this Moist Triple Chocolate Cake {From Scratch}.

Try other frosting flavors- Such as Chocolate Whipped Cream, Brown Sugar Frosting, Caramel Frosting, Maraschino Cherry Frosting or Easy Orange Frosting.

Add fillings- Such as Dulce De Leche, Strawberry Pie Filling, Cherry Pie Filling, or Caramel Sauce.

Try other color combinations- Such as yellow and black, green and black, purple and black, or other spooky color themes.

Use a different cake coating- Such as fondant instead of buttercream.

Change up the color of the frosting and candies- To adjust the design for any other holiday or occasion.

    Tips And Techniques

It's difficult to make red frosting at home- It takes a couple of days for the color to deepen. You can easily use store-bought red frosting, if you like.

Prior to slicing the cake, remove the chocolate bites from the top- Or else it would be very hard to slice the cake.

Work in a cool room temperature environment- To prevent the candies and chocolate from melting.

Cool cake completely- It is impossible to frost a warm cake because it will melt and slide off the cake.

What kind of chocolate to use? I used semi-sweet chocolate, but you can use dark or white chocolate, or even colored candy melts. It will taste a little different, but the look would be very cool.

How to melt chocolate? Place in a microwave safe bowl and melt for 30 seconds at a time, stirring between each heating.
