These pretty cookies are so fun and sparkly. You just need basic store-bought ingredients and supplies to make them with kids.  No royal icing or fancy cutters required! They are just as easy as my Snowflake Cake and my Snowflake Cupcakes. One of my favorite things to do is transform Oreos into cute treats like these Emoji Cookies (Emoji Oreos), Snowman Cookies (Snowman Oreos), Oreo Spider Cookies, Oreo Sports Cookies and these adorable Oreo Turkey Cookies. Considering the fact that we don't make these types of cookies often, it seems unreasonable to buy a special cutter that won't get much use. I have also seen some people get very creative with a star cutter and make snowflakes out of them.

    Key ingredients

    • Oreos- You can use any flavor you like.
    • Fondant- This can be homemade or store-bought.
    • Frosting- This will be used to stick the fondant to the Oreos. You can also use corn syrup instead, if you like.
    • White chocolate- You can use white chocolate chips, almond bark or candy melts.
    • Sanding sugar and edible pearls- This is used to decorate the cookies and give it spark.

How to make easy snowflake Oreos?

    1. Roll out fondant- Cut out circle shapes using a cutter (Image 1).
    2. Spread frosting or corn syrup- On top of Oreos (Image 2).
    3. Place fondant circles- On top of the frosting.
    4. Pipe snowflake design- With melted chocolate (Image 3).
    5. Decorate- By sprinkling sanding sugar and edible pearls on top (Image 4).
    6. Allow the chocolate to set- Enjoy.

    Variations

    • Use a different topping- Instead of melted white chocolate, you can use Royal Icing or Glace Icing. They both dry hard.
    • Snowflake sugar cookies- You can make round cut out sugar cookies instead of Oreos, and the rest of the steps would be the same.
    • Try different colors of fondant- I used blue fondant but you can use pink, silver or whatever color you like.
    • Use flavored Oreos- Such as mint, red velvet, or whatever seasonal flavor you prefer.
    • Dip the Oreos- Instead of using fondant on top, dip them in colored candy melts entirely. Let them set, and then add the snowflake decor.
    • Add a drizzle- Of melted white chocolate on top of the snowflake for even more flair and sweetness.
    • Add colorful sprinkles- Around the snowflake on the blue fondant.
    • Use a pre-made snowflake topper- To save even more time, use a pre-made candy or chocolate snowflake as the decor.

    Tips and techniques

    • Use store-bought fondant- Because it will save you time, it's cheap, and can be found on Amazon, Wal Mart, Hobby Lobby, or Michaels.
    • Decorate quickly- Sprinkle sanding sugar and edible pearls before the chocolate sets so that it sticks properly.
    • Do not store these cookies in the fridge- Because fondant becomes very sticky, when exposed to water or moisture.
    • How to melt chocolate? In a microwave safe bowl at 30 second intervals, make sure to stir between each heating.
    • Use a cookie cutter the same size as the Oreo- Because you want the fondant to fit perfectly on top and not hang over the edge of the cookie.
    • How to attach the fondant to the Oreo? Brush a little corn syrup on the cookie, or use buttercream frosting to act as glue.

Another idea- Cookie cutters with embossing stamps

The market is flooded with the coolest embossing stamp cookie cutters these days. The designs are so beautiful that it's not even necessary to decorate them once they come out of the oven. I made these cut out snowflakes for my Christmas Cookie Boxes (Homemade Gift) and decided to leave some as is, and decorated others with melted white chocolate and sanding sugar.

Variety of Easy Cut Out Snowflake Cookies Decorated With Sanding Sugar on Metal Tray.

How to make snowflake cookies with embossing stamp cookie cutters?

    1. Prepare cut out cookie dough- Roll it out.
    2. Press cookie cutter onto dough- Use plunger to release it onto a sheet of parchment paper (Image 1 and 2).
    3. Bake- Until golden brown and firm along the edges (Image 3).
    4. Cool- To room temperature (Image 4).
    5. Flood the tops- With melted white chocolate, royal icing or glace icing (Image 5).
    6. Dip in sanding sugar- Until tops are fully covered and sparkly (Image 6).
    7. Let icing set- Until firm and enjoy.

My main tip for using these cutters is to make sure you are using a dough recipe that will not spread during baking. If the cookies spread, they will lose their shape and their pretty design and will probably look like a blob when you take them out of the oven.

    Storage

    • Room temperature- Fondant decorated cookies can be stored in a loosely covered box at room temperature for 2-3 days. Embossed cookies can be stored in a cookie jar for 3-4 days.
    • Refrigerate- This is not recommended for fondant decorated cookies since fondant becomes sticky from the moisture in the refrigerator. Undecorated embossed cookies can be stored in a sealed container for up to 1 week.
    • Freeze- This is not recommended for fondant decorated cookies since fondant becomes sticky and messy upon thawing. Undecorated embossed cookies can be stored in a sealed container for up to 1 month.
    • Make ahead- These can easily be made 1-2 days in advance.

    • Stick the circle fondant piece on top and press it gently.
    • Fill a piping bag or squeeze bottle with melted white chocolate and draw a snowflake on top of the blue fondant.

Snowflakes With Embossing Stamp Cookie Cutters

    • Prepare cut out cookie dough and roll it out.
    • Press cookie cutter onto dough and use plunger to release it onto a sheet of parchment paper.
    • Bake until golden brown and firm along the edges.
    • Cool to room temperature.

    • Before this icing sets, dip the cookie (wet side down) into a bowl of sanding sugar.

    Notes

    • You can use homemade or store-bought fondant. You can even flavor it with extracts of your choice.
    • Instead of coloring your fondant light blue, you can just buy pre-colored fondant. It's quick and convenient.
    • If you are planning on making embossed cookies, you can buy those specific cutters on Amazon or Michaels or even Hobby Lobby.
    • You can use any flavor of Oreos you like. You can even use double stuffed ones.
    • For the stamped cookies, please use a cut out cookie dough recipe that holds its shape and does not spread during baking. This will prevent them from losing their pretty design.
    • Read additional tips and variations above.
    • Fondant decorated cookies can be stored in a loosely covered box at room temperature for 2-3 days. Embossed cookies can be stored in a cookie jar for 3-4 days.
    • In this video, you will only see the embossed stamped cookie tutorial. When I make a video for the fondant Oreo design, I will add that too.
