Quick and easy strawberries and cream recipe, homemade with simple ingredients in 20 minutes. This no bake dessert has layers of whipped cream and fresh strawberries.
Layered desserts always look so sophisticated, even when they are so simple to make, and this is why we love them! I also love that the focus is on the beauty of the fresh strawberries without a lot of distraction from other ingredients. For a Mexican version, try this Fresas Con Crema.

How To Make Strawberries And Cream Recipe From Scratch?
- Mix ingredients in a bowl- This includes strawberries, jam, sugar.
- Keep aside- And allow maceration process to proceed.
- Make whipped cream- Or you can buy it.
- Assemble- Spoon layers of whipped cream and fruits in small cups.
What Cream Goes With Strawberries?
- Whipped Cream- Both, homemade cream or store bought works well.
- Creme fraiche- This is higher fat content sour cream and pairs deliciously with fruit.
- Homemade dips- This Best Cream Cheese Fruit Dip or this Chocolate Fruit Dip are great choices.
- Sour cream- You can sweeten it with powdered sugar, if you like.
- Cake- Dice small cubes of the Best Vanilla Cake and layer that to make a trifle dessert.
Variations
Try other frostings instead of whipped cream- Such as Strawberry Buttercream Frosting or Cream Cheese Frosting.
Add a layer of lemon curd- Use this Lemon Curd recipe or you can use a store bought version.
Try other jams or preserves- I used strawberry jam, but other complimentary flavors can be used such as blackberry, blueberry, or even a spicy jalapeno jam would be delicious.
Try a layer of pie fillings- Such as apple, peach, or Blueberry Pie Filling or even this Strawberry Pie Filling.
Add layers of cake- This turns the dessert into a trifle.
Make a large version- These are mini size/individual sized, but you can make a larger bowl where people can serve themselves.
Add other extracts or zests to whipped cream- Such as vanilla, almond, lemon, or orange extracts or lemon, lime, or orange zests.
Replace strawberries with other fruits- Such as blueberries, blackberries, cherries, raspberries, or poached pears or Sauteed Cinnamon Apples. They should be fresh instead of frozen.
Add nuts- Such as pecans, peanuts, almonds, walnuts, or pistachios.
Add shredded coconut- For added texture and sweetness.
Add chocolate chips or cocoa nibs- These add a depth of flavor, texture, and richness.
Vary presentation- Simply serve the macerated fruits in a bowl and the whipped cream on the side. People can serve themselves.
Tips And Techniques
Pipe whipped cream layers for better presentation- I just spooned the whipped cream into the cups, but piping them will add more visual variance and appeal.
Macerate strawberries- Because this makes them juicy and brings out the sweetness.
Fresh strawberries vs. Frozen strawberries- Fresh is definitely best because they will release less water and they will also have the best texture.
Serve immediately- For best presentation, it's best to serve asap.
Serve a crowd- Simply double or triple all the ingredients.
Storage
Make ahead instructions- Everything can be prepared in advance, but assemble them just before serving because the juices from the fruits will run into the whipped cream.
Refrigerate- Leftovers can only be stored if the fruits and whipped cream are separate in airtight containers.
Freeze- The whipped cream can be frozen for up to 1 month. However, I wouldn't freeze the strawberries to use again for this dessert. Fresh is best.
