Yesterday, I bought the juiciest blackberries ever that ended up in this tasty recipe. It really fills you up and is a great way to start off your day just like with this Green Kiwi Smoothie. I am in love with the vibrant color, similar to my Blueberry Smoothie. And with so many plump berries in season, I think I will make a Banana Raspberry Smoothie next!

Key ingredients for breakfast smoothie
- Oats- This helps it be more filling.
- Milk- The higher fat content, the creamier the drink.
- Blackberries- High quality, in season fruit is best.
- Yogurt- I like to use the Greek vanilla.
- Ice- Makes it nice and thick and cold.
- Honey- Used as optional sweetener.
Variations
- You can add a handful of other berries- Like strawberry or blueberry to slightly change up the flavor.
- Add 1 tablespoon of unflavored protein powder- To make this more filling.
- You can add 1 ripe banana in this recipe- And that will add sweetness as well as more creaminess.
- I use milk in this recipe- But I have seen other recipes, which call for coconut water. I tried it but found the consistency to be too thin and didn't like it at all.
- Add juice- In combination with or place in the place of milk. Consistency will change.
- If you want to make a vegan version- Make sure to use vegan yogurt and vegan milk (soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk).
- Try other sweeteners- Such as maple syrup or agave syrup or brown sugar.
- If you are not fond of the chunky oat texture- You can reduce the quantity to your liking.
- Add different extracts- To change up the flavor profile.
- For additional blackberry flavor- Use blackberry flavored yogurt, if you can find it. I feel like it's a flavor that's not always available at grocery stores.
- Bring in some greens- Such as spinach or kale. I like to use about ¼ cup.
- Peanut butter option- Inspired by the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you can blend in a bit of your favorite nut butter to change the flavor.
- Use a different yogurt flavor- Like honey, raspberry, or strawberry.
How to make easy creamy blackberry smoothie recipe?
1. Add ingredients in blender- This includes oats, milk, blackberries, yogurt, ice, honey.
2. Blend well- Until reaches a smooth consistency.
Tips and techniques
- Use fresh blackberries- Since they have so much more flavor but if you can't get your hands on them, frozen ones will work well too.
- I like to use THIS BLENDER- All the time. I use it for all my smoothies and even use it to make purees for savory recipes. It's strong and awesome!
- You can use your favorite yogurt- But I recommend Greek yogurt, because it is creamiest and brings a great flavor.
- If you like acai bowls- You may want to thicken this up and add in some granola and fresh fruit to make a bowl of your own.
- For a fun and fancy look- Rub lemon juice on the rim of a drinking glass or Mason jar and dip it in raw or granulated sugar. You can also use colored sanding sugar for themed parties. Here is a compilation of Beverages to try at your next event.
- Use frozen blackberries- For a thicker, easier smoothie any time of the year.
Recipe FAQs
I like to use honey, but you can also use brown sugar, granulated sugar, maple syrup, agave, monk fruit, Stevia, or your favorite sweetener.
Make sure you are using a high quality blender. You may also just need to take more time to blend it. You can also adjust the quantity of oats in this recipe to reduce the thickness.
They are high in vitamin C, some B vitamins, and they also have lots of fiber.
Storage
- Make ahead- This is best served fresh.
- Room temperature- Don't leave out for any long period of time, because it won't keep it's consistency or cold temperature.
- Refrigerate- Tastes best when served immediately but leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 1 day. It will become thicker and you will need to mix it again with additional milk.
- Freeze- This is not recommended.

Sounds delicious. What kind of oats do you use?

Thanks! I use quick cooking oats in smoothies. It just mixes into the drink faster than the original rolled oats.

This was great! I guesstimated the ice to be 6 cubes and it was thin. Next time I’ll use 4 cubes.
