My son has been on a Pokemon kick lately and I don't think this craze is about to subside any time soon, which is why I made this treat for him. I have even seen similar designs sold at bakeries and Krispy Kreme. Regardless, my kiddo loved eating these just as much as he has enjoyed my Easy Pokemon Cake (Pokeball Cake) and my Easy Camping Cake and especially my Easy Karate Cake (Black Belt Cake). They are great for themed parties.

    Key ingredients

    • Donuts- Plain ones work best.
    • Melted chocolate- You will need a few different colors.

    Variations and tips

    • Use different shapes sizes- To make mini donuts that look like baby Pikachus and various anime characters.
    • Try a different flavor of donut- Have fun, get creative, and think outside the box.
    • Donut pops- Push large popsicle sticks or lollipop stick at the base of the prepared donuts.
    • Jelly or cream filled donuts- These can be done the same way, they will just be a little trickier to use.
    • Pokeball option- Use melted chocolate in white, black, and red to make the donut look like a Pokeball. You can also use donut holes.
Partially Eaten Eaten Yellow Donuts With Crumbs.

How to make easy Pokemon Donuts (Pikachu)?

    1. Dip donut- In melted yellow chocolate. Let it set.
    2. Pipe facial details- With melted black and red chocolate.
    3. Make two chocolate ears- Using melted yellow and black chocolate.
    4. Once chocolate sets- Push them into the top and you are done.

    Tips and techniques

    • You can use store bought or homemade donuts- Just make sure they are plain and not glazed.
    • If you have to color melted white chocolate- Make sure to you use oil-based food colors or else the chocolate will seize.
    • I recommend using candy melts- Because they are available in so many colors and it's less work for you.
    • Pipe the ears on wax paper- So that they can easily be removed and placed onto the donut without difficulty.
    • Make sure to have some extra donuts on hand- Because it takes a bit of practice to get them looking perfect.
    • Remember to make extra chocolate ears- Since they are so fragile and break easily.

    Recipe FAQs

How do I make Pikachu ears out of chocolate?

Make two leaf shapes using yellow chocolate and a piping bag. It's best to put them on wax paper so that you can get the ears off easily. Once the chocolate is set, draw small black tips on the ends of the ears and let set again.

Do I have to use plain, regular donuts?

No! They are easiest to use, but you can use your imagination and use different shapes, sizes, and flavors.

    Can I color white chocolate?

Yes, but be sure to use oil-based food coloring. I suggest using pre-colored chocolate melts for ease.

    Storage

    • Room temperature- Stored in a covered container away from heat and direct sunlight for up to 2 days.
    • Refrigerate- I don't recommend this because the chocolate coating can sometimes crack upon thawing.
    • Freeze- I don't recommend this for the same reason that I don't recommend refrigerating. It's because the chocolate coating can sometimes crack upon thawing.
    • Make ahead- These can easily be made 1 day in advance.

    Ingredients

    • 10 Donuts Unglazed, Homemade or Store-bought
    • 2 cups Yellow chocolate Melted
    • ½ cup Red chocolate Melted
    • ½ cup Black chocolate Melted

    Instructions

    • Melt yellow chocolate in a large bowl. Dip a donut face down into the bowl of melted yellow chocolate. Place it on a sheet of wax paper and let the chocolate set.
    • Fill a piping bag with melted black chocolate and draw Pikachu's eyes, nose and mouth.
    • Fill a piping bag with melted red chocolate and draw two cheeks.
    • Now, make Pikachu's ears. Fill a piping bag with yellow chocolate and draw two "leaf-like" shapes on a sheet of wax paper. They should both be about the same size. Let the chocolate set. Then, fill a piping bag with melted black chocolate and draw the black tips on these yellow ears. Let the chocolate set again.
    • Use a knife to make two cuts along the top sides of the donut.
    • Remove the yellow ears from the wax paper and push them gently into those cuts and enjoy!

    Notes

    • Homemade or store-bought donuts can be used. Just make sure they are plain and not glazed.
    • To color white chocolate, you must use oil-based food coloring.
    • An easier option than coloring white chocolate is to use pre-colored candy melts. This will save you a lot of time.
    • Make sure you pipe extra ears because they are fragile and can break easily during assembling.
    • Read additional tips and variations above.
    • These can be stored in a covered container at room temperature for 2 days.
