There is something warm and comforting about maple flavor and this recipe makes it possible to add it to may different treats at home. You may also enjoy these other maple inspired goods, including Easy Maple Cookies (Soft & Chewy), Maple Fudge (With Maple Syrup), and Easy Maple Frosting (4 Ingredients).

    Key ingredients

    • Maple syrup- Make sure you are using the real kind and not one full of corn syrup.
    • Powdered sugar- Unlike granulated sugar, this has cornstarch that thickens the mixture.
Ingredients for recipe on textured white background.

    Variations

    • Add spices- Such as cinnamon or pumpkin pie spices for added flavor.
    • Try different extracts- Such as vanilla, almond or coconut.
    • Make the maple flavor stronger- By adding maple extract. A small amount goes a long way.
    • Add a pinch of salt- To balance the sweetness.
    • Creamy option- You can mix in heavy cream or full fat cream cheese.

How to make easy maple glaze recipe from scratch?

Maple syrup and powdered sugar in glass bowl.

    1. Add ingredients in mixing bowl- This includes powdered sugar and maple syrup.

Ingredients being mixed together in glass bowl with hand held mixer.

    2. Mix- With electric mixer until smooth.

Water being added to other ingredients in bowl.

    3. Add in- A little water to get the desired consistency.

Ingredients being mixed together smoothly in bowl with red hand held mixer.

    4. Blend- Until a smooth icing forms.

    Tips and techniques

    • Sift powdered sugar- Because this will prevent lumps and makes a smoother icing.
    • Measure ingredients properly- To get the best consistency, flavor, and appearance.
    • For it to soak into dessert- You will want both, the glaze and the dessert, to be warm.
    • For a more crisp drizzle effect- Be sure that your cake has completely cooled first. Use a piping bag or a spoon.
    • For full coverage- Use a spatula to spread evenly.

What to pair with this sweet cake glaze?

    • Cakes- Bundt and pound cakes are great with a nice drizzle of sugary sweetness. Try this Lemon Bundt Cake or Chocolate Pound Cake (With Cake Mix) to start.
    • Cupcakes- From Chocolate Strawberry Cupcakes to classic Yellow Cupcakes, the maple flavor makes a great pairing.
    • Cookies- I think this would be good with my Small Batch of Sugar Cookies (Cut Out) or Vanilla Crackle Cookies (Sugar Crinkle Cookies).
    • Brownies and bars- These Fudgy Brownies With Crackly Tops are a great choice, and if you love Nutella, you better bake a batch of these Nutella Brownies.
    • Pancakes- Spice up your next breakfast by topping off these Fluffy Buttermilk Pancakes or Fluffy Chocolate Pancakes with a nice glaze.
    • Waffles- Top your favorite waffles or my Chocolate Waffles (Cake Mix Waffles) with a pop of maple flavor.
    • Crepes- These Easy Crepes with some fresh berries and these Chocolate Crepes are great choices for a bit of maple drizzle.
    • Sweet bread- Try with Pumpkin Banana Bread (Cake Mix) or Easy Banana Bread (With Cake Mix) for a great combo.
    • Ice cream- Try on top of vanilla ice cream or some frozen yogurt.
    • Donuts- So many of us enjoy a nice maple bar from the bakery. Now bring that flavor home by drizzling this on top of Baked Apple Cider Donuts (Cake) or even Easy Pumpkin Donuts (With Cake Mix).

    Recipe FAQs

What type of maple syrup to use in baking and desserts?

You will want to use high quality, Grade A syrup as opposed to the common "pancake syrup" made mostly of corn syrup. This should be pure, 100% maple syrup.

Why is my glaze so thick? How to fix it?

This happens if there was too much powdered sugar added to the recipe. Don't worry. This is an easy fix. Just add some water (a little at a time) until the desired consistency is reached.

Why is my glaze so thin and runny? How to fix it?

You may not have added enough powdered sugar or maybe put too much water. Just add more powdered sugar to get it to thicken up to what you prefer.

    Storage

    • Refrigerate- Store in a sealed container for up to 3 days.
    • Freeze- Place in an airtight container for up to 1 month. Thaw and enjoy.
    • Room temperature- This can be left out for about 3-5 hours before needing to be put in the fridge.
    • Make ahead- This can easily be made 1-2 days in advance, if kept in a sealed container in the fridge.
