4. Bake- Until cooked through at firm.
Tips and techniques
- Please use a 15.25 oz. cake box- If you have the smaller box, open up a new box of cake mix and measure out the remaining missing quantity with a weighing scale and add that to your cake mix for a total of 15.25 oz.
- Be sure to spray pan with oil- Because otherwise it will stick and become a difficult mess to clean.
- Use unsalted butter- To prevent the dessert from becoming too salty.
- Melt the butter- Because this spreads and incorporates better in the pan.
- Leave the dry cake patches- As long as the cake is golden brown and the juices are bubbling your cake is down. The dry cake lumps will mix in as you cut and serve.
- Serve warm- Because the taste and texture is best.
Recipe FAQs
Do not mix it! Many people think they need to mix all the ingredients but you don't need to do that at all. Just dump and bake.
This is normal since the ingredients are not being mixed together. When you spoon it in a dish later with that gooey filling, the dry cake mix will combine with the rest of the ingredients.
No, because they will release more water/ juice, making the cake runny and soggy.

Ingredients
- 2 cans Strawberry pie filling 21 oz. can each
- 1 box Yellow cake mix 15.25 oz. box. Can also use lemon cake mix or white cake mix.
- 1 cup Butter Unsalted. Melted
Instructions
- Spray a a rectangular cake pan (Dimensions: 13×9) with oil.
- Spread strawberry pie filling evenly in the pan.
- Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly on top of the pie filling.
- Pour melted butter as evenly as you can on top of the dry cake mix.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 40-50 minutes until the top is cooked through and firm. There might be little bits of dry cake mix on top and that's okay. When you spoon it in a plate later with that gooey strawberry filling, the dry cake mix will combine with the rest of the ingredients.
- Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream and enjoy!
Notes
- Instead of a yellow cake mix, you can use white, strawberry or even lemon cake mix.
- Please use a 15.25 oz. cake box. If you have the smaller box, open up a new box of cake mix and measure out the remaining missing quantity with a weighing scale and add that to your cake mix for a total of 15.25 oz.
- Make sure to use unsalted butter to prevent this dessert from becoming too salty.
- Many recipes use butter cubes instead of melted butter but I highly recommend melting it because it spreads better on top of the dry mix.
- Your cake is ready when the top has cracks and it's golden brown and the juices are bubbling, especially along the sides.
- This tastes best when served warm.
- You can enjoy it as is or enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream , whipped cream or even frozen yogurt.
- Read additional tips and variations above.
- Leftovers can be stored in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When you are ready to serve, heat in microwave and enjoy.
