I don't even remember when I first started making these bars. All I know is that I always have a batch of them in my fridge to satisfy my sweet tooth. This is one of the first few things that I also made with my own son when he was little, just to get him involved in the kitchen. These are just as simple to make as my Homemade Chocolate Bars (Dark, Milk, White) and my Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bars and even these Chocolate Covered Potato Chips.

Key ingredients for homemade crunchy chocolate bars
- Chocolate
- Rice Krispies cereal
- Peanut butter
- Protein powder- This is optional and can be omitted if you don't have on hand.
Variations
- You can use whatever chocolate you prefer in this recipe: dark chocolate, semisweet chocolate, white chocolate.
- For a vegan version, use vegan chocolate and omit collagen peptides.
- I added a little bit of peanut butter to give these bars a hint of peanut flavor. However, you can use any type of nut butter you like or you can even omit peanut butter, altogether. Almond butter, pistachio butter, cashew butter and sunflower butter are all great choices.
- Other mix-in options are chopped nuts, shredded coconut, finely chopped dried fruits.
- Chop them up them and toss them on top of a bowl of ice cream for a nice crunchy topping.
- For a healthier version, you can use puffed quinoa or puffed rice.
How to make easy chocolate crunch bars recipe from scratch?
- Make chocolate mixture.
- Spread mixture in molds.
- Chill.
- Remove from mold and enjoy.
Tips and techniques
- You can purchase candy bar molds from Amazon or Hobby Lobby or even Walmart. They are reasonably priced (between $3-$5) and there are many stunning designs and patterns to choose from.
- Greasing the molds is not necessary.
- You might be tempted to speed up the process of chilling by using the freezer. Don't do it because the sudden drop in temperature can cause ghastly white streaks to appear on the chocolate. Use a refrigerator instead.
- Don't try to remove the chocolate from the mold until the mixture has solidified completely or else you will end up with a big sticky mess.
- Recipe can easily be doubled to make more candies.
By the way, I finally got a chance to try the vanilla and coconut flavored Vital Proteins collagen peptides. It's packed with nutrients that are good for your body and also smells and tastes incredible! I swear I want my house to smell like that all the time. I added a scoop in this recipe to give a boost of nutrition.
