How to make emoji cookies (emoji Oreos) with no cutters?

    1. Roll out yellow fondant- This can be homemade or store-bought.
    2. Cut circle shapes- They should be the same size as the cookies.
    3. Stick fondant on cookie- With buttercream icing.
    4. Add details on fondant- Using edible markers.

    Variations

Emoji sugar cookies- Use a round cutter with these Cut Out Chocolate Sugar Cookies or these Cut Out Sugar Cookies (Small Batch). Once the cookies are baked allowed to cool, decorate with fondant and edible markers.

Use whole Oreo cookies- I would have done that if my kiddo hadn't eaten all the creamy halves and left behind a box full of the non-creamy sides.

Decorate by piping- If you have a steady hand and you are good at piping, decorate and all the details with Royal Icing or Glace icing. Both of them dry hard.

Use other cookies- Instead of Oreos, use other store-bought cookies or try any of these Homemade Cookies. They should obviously be round in shape.

Flavor fondant- Mix in extract of your choice to change the flavor. Use an extract whose flavor would compliment the cookie flavor.

Poop emoji cookies- Use graham crackers and cut them into a triangle shape. Then, decorate with brown fondant.

    Tips and Techniques

Homemade fondant vs. Store-bought fondant- Either can be used. They both work well although the homemade version tastes and smells amazing. You can find a link to that in the recipe card below.

Use gel colors for coloring fondant- Because it's thick and concentrated which will prevent the fondant from becoming sticky and tacky.

Circle cutter should be same size as Oreos- The correct size will allow you to cover the top properly.

Don't stack cookies- Once they are decorated, they should not be stacked for a few hours because the fondant can get ruined and dented and the marker ink can smudge.

Where to find edible markers? The two brands that I have used are Wilton and Americolor. Between those two, I prefer the Americolor markers because of their fine tip. Both of these can be found on Amazon or the cake decorating aisle in Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

    Storage

Room temperature– Store leftovers in a cardboard box away from humidity for up to 3 days.

Refrigerate- This is not recommended since the Oreos and fondant will absorb the moisture in the fridge and become soggy and sticky.

Freeze- This is not recommended since the marker ink will bleed color upon thawing and the cookies and fondant will become soggy and sticky.
