I first started making this quick and easy recipe when I was in college. Between spending my days in classes, labs, work and commuting everywhere, I had to keep my energy up and these bites did that for me. Now, I have a very active toddler and I still rely on this easy snack to keep up with him. All the ingredients come together in the most delicious little chewy bites that are packed with strong peanut butter and chocolate flavors, just like these Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookies.

Key ingredients
- Oats- Old fashioned yields the best results.
- Cocoa powder- The higher the quality, the better.
- Coconut- Use desiccated only.
- Flaxseed- Ground makes a smoother ball.
- Honey- Using local, raw is best.
- Peanut Butter- I like to use the creamy option.
- Pistachios- Be sure they are roughly chopped.
- Cinnamon powder- Adds a nice spicy flavor.
Variations
- Add protein powder- The peanut butter itself has protein, but you can always up the amount with some of your favorite protein powder like I did in these Fudgy Avacado Brownies.
- Try other add-ins- Like mini chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or sprinkles.
- Use different nut butters- Including sunflower butter, cashew butter, or almond butter.
- Add in other nuts- Such as peanuts, cashews, walnuts, or pecans.
- Different sweetener options- Instead of honey you can use agave nectar, liquid Stevia, or maple syrup.
- Dip them in melted chocolate- It can be milk, semisweet, or white chocolate.
- Drizzle on- Melted peanut butter or melted chocolate and even add some sprinkles to the top.
How to make chocolate peanut butter no bake energy bites from scratch?
- Mix together- All ingredients in a large bowl.
- Chill mixture- In fridge until firm.
- Scoop out- Portions to roll into balls.
Tips and techniques
- Chill the mixture- Because that makes it easier to handle the mixture and roll it into even-sized balls.
- If you like the sweet and salty flavor combination- Then I recommend using salted pistachios.
- Adjust the quantity of cocoa powder- To suit your preference.
- Make it Vegan- Use an alternate sweetener that's vegan-friendly.
- To be truly gluten free- You must make sure to use gluten free oats.
Recipe FAQs
Simply add a little more peanut butter, honey, or even a splash of milk.
If you have a nut allergy or aversion, you can omit them, but I recommend adding something in its place such as more coconut or mini chocolate chips.
Yes! You can use whatever nut butter works best for you including almond, sunflower, and cashew butters.
