Bake cakes and allow them to cool completely.
While the cakes are baking and cooling, prepare the frosting and tint it yellow with gel food coloring. Also, work on the cake topper.
For the topper, start off by rolling green fondant and use a circle cutter to cut out a piece.
Roll a red and blue ball (should be the same size).
Brush some water in the center of the green circle and stick the two balls here.
Fold the circle piece over the balls and pinch the sides.
Use a black edible marker to draw all the facial details.
Let this topper air dry and harden overnight away from moisture and direct heat.
To make vines, roll thin green fondant ropes. Wrap them around your paintbrush to create different sizes. Remove them from the paintbrush gently and place them on wax paper. Let them air dry and harden.
To assemble the cake, place one cake on a serving dish, spread icing on top and place the other cake on top. Press gently and the ice the entire cake smoothly in icing.
Place the topper and vines on top of the cake.
You can add some simple red fondant flowers around the cake. Learn how to make them in my 4th of July Cake post. Toss green sprinkles around the base of the cake and stick some of them with tweezers randomly on the cake as well. Enjoy.
