Quick and easy fat free chocolate cake is rich and delicious but made with no butter, no margarine and no oil. Great dessert for Christmas time!

Ingredients

  • 1⅔ cups Flour All Purpose
  • 1 cup Sugar Granulated
  • ¾ cup Cocoa powder
  • cups Fat-free yogurt Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup Applesauce
  • 4 Egg whites
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • ½ tsp Baking powder
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp Almond extract
  • 1 cup Red buttercream icing Optional

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, add the egg whites, applesauce, yogurt, vanilla and almond extracts and mix for 3 minutes.

  2. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda.
  3. Now, dump the dry mixture into the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  4. Pour this batter into a greased/floured round cake pan (Dimensions: 8x3).
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean. Watch closely after 35 minutes or else the cake will get over-cooked and dry.
  6. While your cake is baking, you can go ahead and make red peppermint buttercream icing. Once your icing is ready and your cake has baked and cooled, all you have to do is use a sharp knife to make individual cake slices. Then, use my video tutorial to make poinsettias on each slice.

Recipe Notes

Different brands of applesauces have different consistencies so if everything is not mixing properly, add few tablespoons of water or milk. Just remember that this batter is thick so don’t “thin” it out!
